Public Health
ASEF Public Health Network is a participatory platform that encourages dialogue between health and nonhealth sector representatives from Asia and Europe. It engages multiple-sector stakeholders in areas such as pandemics, infectious diseases, risk communications and migrant health. This is done through developing recommendations for improving risk communications for public health emergencies and joint Asian-European research projects. The network receives financial support from the Government of Japan.
The seminar presented the highlights from 3 research publications on migrants’ health, which were published in 2014. The 3 publications were:
Drawing from the key findings of the ASEF-supported joint research projects, the panellists discussed the impact and importance of collaboration between Asia and Europe for improving the health of migrants.


The topics of the workshop covered various aspects of public health emergency management, including surveillance, risk assessment, response, post-event evaluation and improvement, and response to infectious diseases and natural disasters. The workshop consisted of presentations
by experts, interactive discussions, desk exercises, and case studies on public health emergency management. Workshop attendees included 57 health practitioners, experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) headquarters and its Western Pacific Regional Office (WPRO), representatives from ASEM Embassies in China, professionals from Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCs) of some ASEM members and Chinese provincial CDCs, as well as representatives from universities and research institutions across Asia and Europe.
