Expert Roundtable on cultural heritage in Asia and Europe

In preparation for the 4th ASEM Cultural Ministers’ Meeting, the two-day Roundtable discussed the multifaceted aspects of cultural heritage and the various challenges experienced. Among the key topics there were multiple stakeholder and community-centred partnerships and the urgent need to maintain a balance between preservation and modernisation in urban contexts. The recommendations from the Roundtable focused on development and social empowerment through cultural heritage. Read more...
 

A better development strategy and pathway for a developing world

"Lessons learnt in developed worlds during their development process have to be translated into a better development strategy and pathway for a developing world," said Indonesian President's Envoy on Climate Change, Prof Rachmat Witoelar, during his keynote speeches during the opening plenary of the Asia-Europe Environment Forum 2010 Conference.  The Conference runs from 1-3 September 2010.  Read his keynote speech, "The Quest for Sustainable Development in the Face of Climate Change Threats"
 

Asia-Europe Training Course on environmental human rights

Environmental Human Rights is an area that is continuously being debated.  Why is it relevant for Asia and Europe, and how can non-formal education and the youth help promote them? These and other issues will be explored at the Asia-Europe Training Course, to be held from 9-15 November 2010 in Seoul, Korea. Applications to the training course are now being accepted.

ASEF at the WHO Regional Workshop in Singapore

ASEF Deputy Executive Director, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Khanh spoke at the opening of the Regional Workshop on Operational Preparedness for Early Response to Emerging Infectious Diseases, organised by the World Health Organisation.  In his remarks, Amb Khanh highlighted the significance of the ASEM Initiative for the Rapid Containment of Pandemic Influenza, of which the ASEF Network for Public Health is an important component. Read his opening remarks here.
