The 51 members of ASEF’s Board of Governors are appointed by the respective Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) members. The Board reviews the organisation’s strategy and policies, ensuring that these adhere to ASEM’s principles and priorities. At the same time, it oversees ASEF’s finances and budgeting, and approves its activity portfolio. The Board elects a new Chair and Deputy Chair on an annual basis and appoints a new Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director every four years. In both cases one is European and the other Asian to ensure balanced representation. The Board also comprises an Executive Committee and a Finance and Administration Committee, each with an equal Asian and European membership.
