2nd Deauville Asian Film Festival

ASEF supported the 2nd Deauville Asian Film Festival from 17th-19th March, 2000 in France, an event organised by Association pour la Promotion des Films des Pays d'Asie

Once again, the this festival was a meeting point for the Asian and European film industry. Close to 15,000 visitors attended the festival, including over 150 accredited journalists. Notable actors, directors, and producers from the Asian film industry were also present at the festival.

The judges for the film festival competition were the British critic-scriptwriter, Mr. Tony Rayns, Chinese writer Ms. Shan Sa, Vietnamese film director Mr. Tran Ahn Hung, Korean actress Ms. Yun Chung-Hee and French scriptwriter Mr. Yves Boisset.

City of Glass, by Cheung Yuen-Ting, Hong Kong, China
My Loving Trouble 7, by James Yuen, Hong Kong, China
Messengers, by Yasuo Baba, Japan
José Rizal, by Marilou Diaz-Abaya, Philippines
The King and the White Elephant, by Pridi Phanomyong, Thailand

A retrospective of great historical films of Asia, which included The King and the White Elephant (Thailand, 1940), Gengis Khan (China, 1998), The Eunuchs (South Korea, 1986) were well received.

All screenings were held at the theatre of the Deauville Casino, the Morny cinema and the Deauville International Centre.
