Asia Europe Economic Forum (AEEF)

The 12th AEEF Conference on “Global Governance of Public Goods: Asian and European Perspectives” was jointly organised, with ASEF’s support, by Centre d’Etudes Prospectives et d’Informations Internationales (CEPII) (host), Bruegel, and Bertelsmann Stiftung on the European side, and Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI), Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), and Korea University on the Asian side.

The conference brought together high-ranking participants, including active and former senior policy-makers, recognised academic experts and private sector specialists, to discuss key economic issues relevant to Asia and Europe. Topics under discussion included global economic imbalances, the slowdown in international trade, monetary policy-making, the multilateral economic system, and the economics of climate change.

Asia-Europe Migration Project: Migrants’ Rights in an Unstable World

Panellists sharing experiences from Asia and Europe on migrants’ rights and protection.

ASEF co-organised a panel on labour migrants’ welfare at the 9th Asia-Europe Labour Forum together with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung’s (FES) Office for Regional Cooperation in Asia. Titled “Migrants’ Rights in an Unstable World”, the panel shared findings and recommendations from the joint ASEF-FES publication “A Triple Win in Migration: Ensuring Migrant Workers’ Rights to Protect All Workers” (November 2014) and included presentations from Secretary Imelda M. NICOLAS (Commission on Filipinos Overseas), Mr August GÄCHTER (Centre for Social Innovation) and Ms Sulistri AFRILESTON (Confederation of Indonesia Prosperity Trade Union).

The 9th Asia-Europe Labour Forum took place on 2-3 December 2015 ahead of the 5th ASEM Labour and Employment Ministers’ Conference (ASEM LEMC5) held on 3-4 December 2015 in Sofia, Bulgaria and was part of the ASEM Social Partners’ Dialogue.
