With a steadily growing economic partnership, EU and ASEAN entered into negotiations for a FTA in 2007, and Eco-tourism has been identified as one of the key areas for deeper cooperation. As one of the ASEAN countries looking to developing sustainable tourism, Thailand has commissioned the production of a first guidebook on the subject, entitled “Travel Green Thailand”. This guidebook gives not only useful travel tips and advice, but also highlights the benefits of stronger EU-ASEAN cooperation in the field of eco-tourism. In this talk, Mr Richard Werly, the main author of “Travel Green Thailand”, shared his insights and perspectives on how EU and ASEAN could deepen cooperation in eco-tourism as one of the sectors contributing to sustainable development of the Southeast Asian region. This free talk was jointly organized by the European Union Centre, the Asia-Europe Foundation, and the Singapore Institute of International Affairs.
