The 1st Asia-Europe Classroom International Teachers' Conference, conducted with the Ministry of Education, Singapore, was held from 2 to 5 September 2001 in Singapore. It was aimed at encouraging the advancement of education through using information and communication technology (ICT) and providing a platform for the schools to collaborate online.
The Asia-Europe Classroom (AEC) is a cyberspace classroom established in 1998, to promote online learning for high school students and teachers between Asia and Europe. The first AEC International Teachers' Conference was proposed in 2000 and implemented in early September 2001.
The conference attracted a total of 63 teachers and educationists from 18 ASEM countries. The teacher participants came together, formed working groups and proposed seven feasible ICT projects at the end of the four-day conference.
