OVERVIEW

At this workshop, European studies academics representing Vietnam National University, Universitas Indonesia (UI), and Ateneo de Manila University convened to train for the implementation of a new phase of the “EU Through The Eyes Of Asia” study in Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

The study is the pilot project of ASEF's European Studies in Asia (ESiA) network, undertaken to measure the media, public, and elite perceptions of the European Union in Asian ASEM countries.

The three-day workshop began with an introduction to the ESiA network as well as ASEF activities in general. Following this, participants were given an overview of the “EU Through The Eyes Of Asia” study, focusing on leading research questions and theoretical underpinnings. The workshop sessions involved teamwork activities aimed at building relationships, as well as activities to familiarise the new researchers with the intricacies of the project methodology.
