Photography exhibition 'The House of the Raja' by Spanish-born artist Xavier Comas explores perceptions about southern Thailand through the faded memories of a neglected Palace in Narathiwat Province. This region was once a cosmopolitan ‘gateway between the East and West' frequented by the Portuguese, Dutch, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese and Arabs, an influence that can still be seen today. Comas’ artistic interpretations explore these themes through faded memories and identities of the people and the places of this unique region.
On 20 October the exhibition will launch the photography book ‘The House of the Raja: Splendour and Desolation in Thailand’s Deep South’ by Xavier Comas and Thai fiction writer Tew Bunnag.
The exhibition will be held at Salon Projects Gallery, 48 Niven Road, Singapore 228396.
This exhibition is part of ASEF’s 15th anniversary celebrations which are organised to celebrate the lively dialogue between Asia and Europe. The cultural events, under the theme of Mutual Perceptions between Asia and Europe, will take place throughout the year and will be organised in partnership with cultural organisations in Singapore and overseas.
