Creative Encounters: Cultural Partnerships between Asia and Europe

The Creative Encounters programme is the main and currently the only programme through which ASEF selects and supports artistic collaborations and co-creation, one of the Culture Department's main focus areas since 2002. Derived from the Asia-Europe Partnership Initiatives (AECPI) program (2009-2010), Creative Encounters is based on an annual open call for proposals and a selection process targeting innovative projects, which gather artists, performers, producers and cultural practitioners from Asia and Europe.

Creative Encounters is a programme developed in partnership with Arts Network Asia (ANA) and in cooperation with Trans Europe Halle (TEH).

Creative Encounters responds to the recommendations of the Action Plan of ASEM Culture Ministers (2005, Paris) to "promote exchanges and foster circulation in the areas of performances, exhibitions, literary works and audio-visual programmes between European and Asian countries" and "recognise the important role of (...) civil society, especially of cultural organisations in promoting cultural diversity."
